Kitchen Renovations and Remodeling in NYC

Thinking about Kitchen Design

Ever notice that when there’s a social gathering in a home, people congregate in the kitchen? Today the kitchen serves not only as a place for preparing food, but also as a place where the party begins and ends, where couples relax over the coffee in a cozy breakfast nook, or where delicious buffets await family and guests alike.

What feeling do you want to create in the kitchen? The traditional feel of hearth and home? The clean, uncluttered lines of contemporary design? Is meal preparation the main function of the kitchen? Gourmet cooks and gardeners want a different level of functionality than homeowners who want to be in and out of the kitchen quickly. How does the family use the kitchen? How will their needs change your requirements over the next ten years? (If you can’t answer this question, ask friends who are a few years ahead of you in terms of family life.) Is there a special view you want to preserve or establish? What appliances and amenities must be included? Warming drawers, refrigeration zones, wine coolers, ultra-quiet dishwashers that sense how dirty the dishes are, cooktops with interchangeable cooking modules, and convection ovens with electronic touchpad controls are all available. What are your storage needs? If you own a lot of kitchen items, have a relatively small kitchen, or want personally tailored storage space, ask your kitchen designer to take a detailed inventory of your possessions. Top quality cabinets can be customized to fit your needs. Kitchen designers, custom cabinetmakers, or space organization experts can guide you. Consider custom options such as Slotted storage for serving trays, Pull-out recycling bins, Plate racks and wine racks, Cutlery dividers, the drawer for spices, Pivoting shelving systems, Pull-out or elevator shelves for food processors, mixers, televisions or computers. Is the kitchen also a work area or a home office? Do you need a location for a computerized home management or intercom system?

Search out Design Excellence

Designing a kitchen is an intimate undertaking, filled with many decisions based on personal habits and family lifestyles. Before you select the kitchen professional who will lead you through the project, make a personal commitment to be an involved and interested client. Since the success of these rooms is so important to the daily lives of you and those around you, it’s a worthwhile investment of your time and energy. Choose a designer whose work shows creativity and a good sense of planning. As in any relationship, trust and communication are the foundations for success. Is the designer open to your ideas, and does he or she offer information on how you can achieve your vision? If you can’t express your ideas freely, don’t enter into a contractual relationship, no matter how much you admire this person’s work. If these rooms aren’t conceived to fulfill your wishes, your time and resources will be wasted.

Kitchen Remodeling Coordination Process

The course of any kitchen renovation of any size starts with an initial meeting to discuss pricing, demolition, design, and scheduling, as well as a time frame for your project. After that the kitchen demolition work will begin to remove everything necessary and have a clean slate.

After demolition the rough-in will begin, including structural, plumbing, and electrical work. Once that is done the carpentry will begin, with sheetrock, tile, molding, plastering, and installation of cabinetry and other materials. Then our finishing touches will have your kitchen looking luxurious.

Additional Kitchen Construction Steps

We will work with all project team members to define the logistical requirements for the construction process, such as areas for deliveries, placement of barricades (if required) and hours of operation.

Kitchen Demolition

First we must remove all the old materials and fixtures from your home. The demolition phase consists of removing:
⁃ Existing cabinets and counters
⁃ Plaster from walls and ceilings
⁃ Walls and ceilings are de-nailed
⁃ Finish Flooring
⁃ All remaining debris is swept and vacuumed to limit the spread of dust during construction.

Reporting and Cost Control for Kitchen Renovations

During the kitchen renovation and construction process, we will provide up-to-date information with respect to changes that have occurred and the plan of action drawn up initially. Everything will be in an itemized report for you to see, including any change orders that you approved.

Commissioning and Kitchen Project Closeout

One of the most critical stages of the kitchen remodeling process is the commissioning and closeout of the project with the final details.

Some of the carpentry and finishing for your kitchen renovation include:
⁃ Wallboard Plastering, Taping, and Sanding
⁃ Interior Trim
⁃ Waterproofing Flooring
⁃ Coating Flooring
⁃ Installation of Cabinets
⁃ Installation of Appliances
⁃ Templating for Countertops
⁃ Priming, Painting, and Special Finishes
⁃ Installation of Granite and Other Stonework
⁃ Connecting / Finishing Plumbing and Electric
⁃ Backsplash Tile Installation and Sealing
⁃ Final Cleanup and Walk-Through
